What We Do

Unique clients, unique therapy

No two stutters are alike. No two people who stutter, either.

Stuttering—more so than any other issue in speech pathology—demands an individualized approach. At SoCal Stuttering, we create unique therapy plans for unique clients, and we allow these plans to evolve and change as our clients do. The result is a stutter management strategy that is dynamic and flexible, taking into consideration age, temperament, life goals, and personal speaking challenges.

One-on-one virtual sessions

This is our entry-point service. You will meet individually with a therapist via video conferencing. Weekly sessions are the norm, though bi-weekly is also an option. Early sessions focus on education (Stuttering 101), diving deep into what causes stuttering, exploring what can and cannot be  changed, and discussing expectations and desired outcomes. We want to make sure you understand the landscape prior to diving in!

Subsequent sessions are typically a mix of talk-therapy modalities (CBT, ACT), avoidance-reduction assignments, and active experimentation with reducing physical struggle.

Group sessions and peer circles

Once you're a client, you're in the family.

Our monthly peer circles are exclusively reserved for current and past clients. Many new clients find it helpful to sit in a room with stutterers who have already been through this therapy to share experiences, compare notes on what's working, and find a safe space to experiment with speaking freely. New clients use this opportunity to begin taking risks with social participation. Older clients tend to use it as a maintenance option for continuing their "stuttering practice."
